Poised to be an engineering marvel upon completion the east west metro corridor between Sector V and Howrah Maidan stations comprises both elevated via duct covering 5.8 km. and an underground section of 10.8 km. Tunnels have been bored under the Hooghly river to connect the twin cities of Kolkata and Howrah through the rapid transit system.
History was made as the first rake rolled into the metro station coming up 17m below Sealdah, the busiest suburban railway station, paving the way for the east west corridor’s 2.3 km. extension beyond Phoolbagan. Continuous trails should start towards the end August 2022.
The corridor currently operates along the 7km between sector V and Phoolbagan. It will run 16 km. till Howrah Maidan. Howrah station is the railway station along east-west corridor, which houses the country’s deepest metro station at 30m. Regular commercial services connecting sector V, Karunamayee, Central Park, City Centre, Bengal Chemical, Salt lake Stadium and Phoolbagan stations has been commenced.
