The Academy of Fine Arts is one of the oldest fine arts societies in India. The academy was formally established in 1933. There is a theatre auditorium inside Academy of Fine Arts which is one of the most popular spots for performers and viewers of the city. Since 1984, an annual theatrer festival is organized here. Indian Botanic Garden, Founded in 1786 is situated in Shibpur, Howrah near Kolkata. The garden exhibit a wide variety of rare plants and a total collection of over 12,000 specimens spread over 109 hectares. It is famous for the Great Banyan, an enormous banyan tree which is the largest tree in the world. (Circumference 330 mtrs.)
