It got its name from one of the mangrove plants known as Sundari (Heritiera Minor). This is one of the most attractive and alluring place remaining on  the earth, a truly undiscovered paradise. The name can be literally translated as “Beautiful Jungle.” The first image which comes into the mind after hearing the name Sundarbans, is of a majestic Royal Bengal Tiger. It is the largest Tiger Reserve and National Park which is  well known for its conservation of the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles.

However like all most beautiful things, Sundarbans is not also easily accessible. The best and safest way to reach here its via boats, The pre-planned tours start from port Canning, the nearest railhead. The West Bengal Tourism operates many luxury boat services to Subdarbans from Sonakhali / Namkhana. State owned MV Chatralekha has excellent arrangements for on-board accommodation. If one likes to stay at the core area, then Sajnekhali Tourist Lodge is the only place situated near Tiger project.
