Swami Vivekananda’s ancestral house is a major landmark of Kolkata. The great sage and reformer was born here in 1863 and spent a major part of his life here. Originally built in the 18th century, the structure was crumbling and needed urgent restorative attention. In 1962, the Ramkrishna Mission renovated it and transformed it into a museum-cum-cultural centre.
